Thank you for visiting my web site. Take a look around . . . you will find many valuable resources.
The single biggest feature of my business model is that I operate from an office in my home. Ask yourself "How does the debt service, repairs, maintenance and depreciation on a large office translate into better service for the customer?" The fact of the matter is that it doesn't. With the advent of The Internet the old way of doing business is both expensive and unnecessary . . . and we pass the savings on to you.
One prime example of the valuable skills I provide as a REALTOR is my ability to market to a large audience of qualified buyers. Through my use of the REALTOR.com marketing system, I was the first to leverage the marketing power of The Internet's most popular real estate Web Site, REALTOR.com.

When I host your home on REALTOR.com, your home with multiple photos is also included within the real estate sections of AOL, MSN, Netscape, Moving.com and over fifty additional real estate sites. Home buyers who go online to search for real estate in the Athens area on these popular Web sites, will find your home, through my use of the #1 real estate site, REALTOR.com. This tremendous exposure to the largest audience of buyers helps give your home the visibility it deserves.
Further, we place your listings on nationally recognized web sites such as Trulia.com and Zillow.com which largely eliminates the need for large newspaper advertisements which say "Look at how many listings we have!" while each listing gets lost in a maze of competing listings. Our approach is to have a small advertisement directing customers to our web site's "Sunday Supplement." We do not pay the $50,000 to $100,000 a year for newspaper advertising . . . and we pass the savings on to you.
WebMLS is a full service, competitively priced real estate broker with over 140 agents around the State of Ohio. We contend that we can deliver full service at a fraction of the cost of the typical six or seven percent charged by a "brick and mortar" agency. Our seller commission rate is as low as 2% plus a $500 listing fee at the time of listing. Review the commission tab above to see what this can mean to you in savings.

Most people see a house as one of their most important investments. The REALTOR® you choose is one of your most valuable resources in the process of selling your home. Here are some reasons to choose Doug Green and WebMLS.
Doug will help you get the most money for your home by using his or her experience and training to help you price the home properly.
Doug offers very competitive comission rates (see the Commission tab above.)
Doug will not be emotionally attached to your house and can give you an objective opinion as to what repairs or upgrades are needed to make your home appealing to buyers. He will tell you which improvements are worth doing and which will waste your money.
Most REALTORs® offer much the same set of services and deliver them with varying degrees of success. I offer the normal array of services, plus some that other agents regard as only for their top end homes. Review my Service tab above in conjunction with my Commission rate for my full service committment and judge for yourself who offers the best value in REALTOR® services.
Buyers
For starters, I am committed to making your home buying experience easier, stress free, and painless. I view it as one of my goals to guide you through the maze of details with experienced advice which will set your mind at ease that you are making good decisions every step of the way.
One of the things I do to open doors for you is to provide tools. One of the more valuable ones is my New Listings e-Letter which is announces all new listings to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) as they hit the market. The eletter goes out by email 3-4 times a week and is a great way to stay abreast of new listings. You may subscribe here. Another tool is this web site. Take some time and look around. You will find many helpful links to assist you.
Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to let me know if I can assist you in any way.

Resume
My adult life really started right out of high school.
Since my grades really didn't allow for getting into college at that time I "avoided" the draft by enlisting in the Army. Actually, the time I spent in the Army was very important time in my life. I gained focus. After two tours of duty in Vietnam, I returned to the States and was honorably discharged in June of 1970 to start college.
After attending college in New Jersey for two years, I transferred to Ohio University and completed my undergraduate work there, graduating with a concentration in Accounting. After graduation, I studied and passed the CPA exam in Ohio. Another thing that I accomplished at Ohio University was earning my pilot's license attaining a Commercial License and Instrument Rating.
My professional career in accounting consisted of work in the audit and consulting services arena of a national accounting firm in New York, as well as a general accounting practice here upon returning to Athens. I subsequently took a position with The Small Business Development Center at Ohio University and rose to be one of the Directors there before leaving to take on the Controllership of Specialty Books in Athens. During that same period I served as Athens City Treasurer.
I am active in the community having served on the board of the Athens Youth Hockey Association and currently serve as president of the board of Athens CASA/GAL (Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian Ad Litem) and as a board member of the Milestones Network. I am the proud grandfather of three grandchildren (my daughter Elizabeth's Brody and Maeve and my son Jonathan's son Nathan. With proper planning, we may have a full hockey line!
My role as a Realtor came about when Specialty Books was acquired by a national book distribution company and being the Controller of the "acquired" company . . . I found myself in the job market. Taking stock of my situation, and my enthusiasm for things "real estate," I elected to make a change and become a Realtor.
Its been almost ten years and I haven't looked back. I love what I do, and I think you will find that enthusiasm comes through in the level of service I offer buyers and sellers.
Testimonials
I know a great realtor in the Athens county area: Doug Green. Eight years ago, my husband and I bought our first home with his assistance. Then, during the huge lull in realty sales last Fall, Doug helped us find the home of our dreams and he managed to sell our old house in less than a month.
Doug is patient, generous, thorough, helpful and an excellent communicator. When we filled out forms he was right there to translate all the realty jargon into everyday english. He even used "visual aids" to help clarify the deadlines for various parts of the sale process. When we had no bush hog to clear out our overgrown backyard, Doug volunteered part of his Saturday to help us with his own tools. Likewise, when we needed assistance in updating our septic system, he got down in the muck with my husband and guided him through every step of the repair process.
At our new home Doug Green set us up with a home inspector that gave us a home owners book full of suggestions and valuable home owners information. To accommodate our schedule, Doug sometimes conducted business at his home. He led us completely through the dizzying process of selling an old home and purchasing a new one in three months time.
Even after the contracts were signed, Mr. Douglass Green told us where to find special types of fuses for our fusebox, and he volunteered to help us install them. With consideration and kindness Doug goes above and beyond the call of a realtor's duty. We were privileged to have the opportunity to work with him. We recommend Doug to anyone interested in quality service and excellent results.
Elyce M. Friedman & Raymond W. Marsh June, 2008
Doug Green was instrumental in the eventual purchase of our dream home. Not too many Realtors are happy to see customers buy an old farmhouse at a very low purchase price. Doug was! It is exactly what we wanted. A real old fixer-upper. Doug wanted us to be happy with our purchase and he was on top of any questions and had a wide array of professional contacts who could resolve the many issues we had with acquiring our property. He is an articulate communicator and very personable. He even came and donated sweat equity to our restoration! This is our second home purchase with Doug, and like a fine wine, he has improved with age.

In the fall of 2005 I decided to list my house for sale with Doug Green. I was leaving town in January and was hoping for a quick sale. Doug was fabulous. First, he took the time to go over everything with me: the timetable, the associated costs, what services he would provide including a 360 degree virtual tour of each room, what to do before a showing, what to "fix/repair" before the listing, etc. He conducted several Open Houses and provided input from all visitors as well as from showings by other realtors. He has this cool on-line resource that documents what people thought.
When offers came in, he counseled me on how to respond. The first offer I received was disappointing low and it was nerve-wracking turning it down. After a lull, I suddenly had two offers on my house, and Doug again counseled me on how to respond. He did an excellent job explaining what the options were and was incredibly patient with my endless questions. Offers and counteroffers were made, and then it was over. But Doug's involvement wasn't. A week after the sale he helped me pack and move. I shouldn't have been surprised, knowing Doug. I believe he truly cares about his clients and does his best to help in any way he can. If I still lived in Athens and had another house to sell, I'd call Doug Green.

In the Winter of 2006 the perfect house (for me) came on the market in Athens, Ohio. Doug Green showed me around and answered my questions with great care and patience. He then bent over backwards to show me the house multiple times after my first visit, even on nights and weekends. Doug was attentive as I toured the home each time, but he also allowed me the space I needed to look around on the new house on my own.
At a certain part in the home buying process when it looked like my funding had fallen through, Doug was very encouraging and utilized his expertise to help me navigate my financial options, and helped me find a way for me to get the funding I needed. I honestly don't think I could have ended up in my new home without Doug Green's encouragement and experience.
